Sustainability & Environmental Impact
Our commitment to delivering AI-powered healthcare education responsibly and sustainably.

SimConverse takes a deliberate approach to minimising the environmental impact of delivering AI-powered healthcare education, structured around three pillars: efficient infrastructure, sustainable operations, and the inherent environmental benefit of replacing resource-intensive traditional training methods.
Proprietary AI Efficiency
SimConverse’s AI model development and strategy is intentionally designed with sustainability in mind. Rather than relying on large general-purpose language models, SimConverse develops purpose-built proprietary AI models specifically for healthcare dialogue. This approach is significantly more computationally efficient than general-purpose alternatives, requiring fewer processing resources per interaction and therefore generating a dramatically smaller carbon footprint per learner session.
A note on general-purpose AI wrappers. Many products in the healthcare simulation space are built as thin interfaces on top of large general-purpose language models such as GPT-4 or Gemini. These models can require orders of magnitude more processing power per query than a purpose-built model optimised for a specific task. At institutional scale, thousands of learner sessions routed through these APIs accumulate a significant and unnecessary carbon footprint. Because wrapper products have no control over the underlying model architecture, they cannot optimise for efficiency and inherit the full environmental cost of the largest available models, regardless of whether that scale is needed. SimConverse’s purpose-built approach avoids this entirely, delivering equivalent or superior educational outcomes at a fraction of the computational cost.
Energy-Efficient Hosting
SimConverse selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its hosting provider specifically because of AWS’s commitment to powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025 and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 as part of The Climate Pledge. The data centres used by SimConverse benefit from AWS’s investments in renewable energy procurement.
AWS infrastructure is significantly more energy-efficient than traditional on-premises data centres, with studies indicating that AWS workloads can be up to 3.6 times more energy-efficient than the median enterprise data centre.
Environmentally Responsible Development Practices
SimConverse operates as a fully distributed company with no requirement for daily transportation to a central office, eliminating commute-related carbon emissions. All business operations, including finance, legal, HR, sales, and marketing, run on vendor-hosted SaaS applications, avoiding the need for on-premises server infrastructure. The platform requires no physical consumables, printed materials, or dedicated simulation space.
Reducing Emissions Through Replacement of Traditional Methods
A significant environmental contribution of SimConverse is reducing the need for standardised patient actor programmes. Traditional simulation training requires actors and learners to travel significant distances to campus, dedicated heated and lit simulation suites, printed scenario materials, and associated administrative travel.
Example: At an institutional scale of 750+ nursing students per year, replacing even a portion of actor-based sessions with SimConverse eliminates the associated travel emissions, physical space energy consumption, and materials waste. SimConverse enables students to practise from any location on any device, removing the need for physical attendance for simulation training entirely.
This applies across all disciplines and regions where SimConverse is deployed. By enabling healthcare communication skills training to take place remotely and on-demand, the platform structurally removes the environmental cost of co-location that traditional methods require.
SimConverse is committed to continuously reviewing and improving its environmental practices as the platform scales. If you have questions about our sustainability approach or would like further detail for your procurement process, please contact us at info@simconverse.com.
